Stepsize AI

Editor-first issue tracker and AI-powered updates for software teams

In 2013, I moved to London to live with my brother Nick and our friends Jared and Matt. We spent every evening, night, and weekend building software together. One night in 2015, we prototyped an RNN that could generate code. It was rough, but it showed us something nobody else could see yet: one day, AI would build software for humans. We were so pumped by that insight that we quit our startup jobs and moved into the chef's quarters of Jared's parents' Chinese restaurant in Hastings. Free rent in exchange for help in the kitchen (really it was just Jared doing the helping). That's where Stepsize started.

Live at ClickUp

Ask AI & @Brain

The AI system inside ClickUp's everything app

After the Stepsize acquisition, the team and I joined ClickUp to keep building toward the same vision. We shipped two AI products: Ask AI, a ChatGPT-like assistant built into the platform, and @Brain, an AI agent you can mention anywhere in ClickUp like you would a teammate. We built @Brain from scratch. An early version of Ask AI existed when we arrived, but quality wasn't where it needed to be. Together with some brilliant new friends at ClickUp, we rebuilt it. Ask AI became the most-used AI feature on the platform. @Brain became the highest quality.

Fullstackfounder.ai

Community for builders shipping with AI

I spent a decade building AI products. Now I'm sharing everything I figured out along the way. Fullstackfounder.ai is a weekly newsletter and community for builders who are using AI to ship products solo or with small teams. No fluff, no hype. Just what's actually working, what isn't, and what I'm learning as I build my own products in the open.

Lessons from Lenny

Interactive AI skills for PMs and founders, distilled from 269 episodes of Lenny's Podcast

When Lenny Rachitsky open sourced the transcripts from 269 episodes of his podcast, I saw an opportunity. What if you could take the best product frameworks from these conversations and make them interactive? So I built 10 Claude Code skills that do exactly that. Type a slash command and the AI walks you through a proven framework, asking the right questions and generating real deliverables. The repo is open source and designed so anyone can create new skills on whatever topic they want.

World-Class Design

An open-source skill for getting distinctive design out of AI coding agents

Left alone, AI keeps landing on the same design: purple gradient, text on the left, graphic on the right. Anshu Chimala and Lenny Rachitsky published a process for escaping that default, so I turned it into an executable skill for Claude Code and Codex. Then I ran it on two real products — including this site — across roughly 30 design variants. The most useful parts came from watching it break and turning each failure into a rule.

Side Project

Clien.ai

Stress-test your startup ideas before you build them

Every time I've started something new, I've wished I could interview my target customers before building anything. So I'm building a tool that lets you do exactly that. Describe your idea, and Clien.ai runs a deep research agent that generates realistic personas, conducts simulated interviews, analyses competitors, mines forums for real demand signals, and synthesises everything into a validation report. 20-30 minutes and $2-3 instead of weeks and thousands of dollars. It's a side project and not yet launched, but it's one I keep coming back to.
